The company has failed to pay a bond, note or loan on time, or has forced an extension of one.
A default can trigger cross-default clauses on other borrowings, rating downgrades and litigation. It signals that liquidity has run short, and it rarely stays contained to one instrument.
A court has frozen one or more of the company's bank accounts.
Frozen cash cannot pay suppliers, staff or lenders. Check the amount frozen against the cash the company holds.
The company is a party to a material lawsuit, arbitration or enforcement action.
